Clinical Social Work
Social workers at the University Hospital Graz offer support to patients in managing everyday challenges—whether they are Children and adolescents, as well as their families, or elderly individuals. This support is intended to maintain and strengthen the healing process initiated during the hospital stay and to improve quality of life afterward.
Hospital social work is always guided by the individual needs, wishes, developmental potential, and resources of each person. Their social and economic situation is also taken into careful account.
Our Principles
- We view hospital social work as an integral part of holistic patient care in a Health Promoting Hospital.
- Our actions are guided by the well-being of patients, based on a broad understanding of health that includes physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.
- We also follow the principle of empowerment through self-help, recognizing each person as a capable individual in their role as a patient.

- Counseling for patients of all ages and their relatives during difficult life situations
- Organizational information on home care services, nursing homes, rehabilitation, convalescent stays, medical aids and equipment, care allowance, meal delivery services, and more
