Specialized Outpatient Clinics

Over 2,000 patients are tested and treated in our Allergy Outpatient Clinic each year - including specific immunotherapy, if nescessary.

Diagnosis begins with a thorough medical history, followed by skin testing, detection of specific IgE antibodies in the blood, and nasal provocation testing if needed. Every diagnosis is followed by detailed patient counseling and the initiation of an appropriate treatment plan.

To assess pressure and airflow in nasal airway area diseases, we use diagnostic tools such as acoustic rhinometry and rhinomanometry.

In the vestibulometry unit, all types of balance disorders and dizziness can be diagnosed and assessed using tests such as the pendulum test and stabilometry platform. Additionally, conditions like cranial nerve palsy (e.g., facial nerve paralysis) and circulatory disturbances of the inner ear can be examined and treated on an outpatient or inpatient basis.

Good hearing ability is essential for a child's development of spoken language.
To counteract the possible consequences of hearing impairment, early detection and intervention are necessary.

Pediatric audiology is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive counseling for hearing impairments in infants, children, and adolescents.
To assess a hearing impairment in a child, various examinations and hearing tests are conducted depending on the child's age and developmental stage. Both subjective and objective procedures are used.

Subjective hearing tests require the cooperation of your child and include:

  • Behavioral/observational audiometry
  • Play audiometry
  • Speech audiometry

With objective procedures, your child’s cooperation is not required. These tests are performed while the child is calm or asleep. They include:

  • Impedance audiometry
  • Measurement of otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE, DPOAE)
  • Auditory brainstem response (AABR, BERA)

If a hearing impairment is diagnosed by the physician, depending on the need, the following may be initiated:

  • Conservative or surgical treatment
  • Fitting of hearing aids
  • Use of implantable hearing systems (e.g., cochlear implants)

The Pediatric Audiology Clinic at the ENT department consists of a multidisciplinary team of phoniatricians, ENT specialists, speech-language pathologists, and psychologists. We also work closely with early intervention specialists for hearing and hearing aid acousticians.

The cause of rhonchopathy (snoring disorder) as well as obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is examined in the “snoring laboratory.” If necessary, appropriate conservative or surgical measures can be initiated there.

Phoniatrics is concerned with disorders of voice, speech, language, and swallowing.
Due to the extensive diagnostic and therapeutic efforts required for examination and treatment, both the phoniatric and speech therapy outpatient clinics operate by appointment only -  meaning that scheduling an appointment is always necessary.

Every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., an interdisciplinary ward round takes place in the outpatient clinic. Physicians from the University Clinic for Radiation Therapy and the University Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology jointly participate to ensure optimal care for our tumor patients undergoing ongoing radiation therapy.

On Mondays and Thursdays, tumor follow-up appointments for our patients who have already completed their tumor therapy take place in the ENT outpatient clinic between 12:00 PM and 3:30 PM. The tumor follow-up typically occurs over a five-year observation period.

In addition to specialized outpatient clinics, the hospital offers a wide range of treatments that require inpatient admission. Prior to such an admission, patients are thoroughly informed about the procedure and their stay at the clinic. For example, as part of the hospital’s social services, social workers provide support to our patients in coping with age-related and everyday challenges.
